In-person community Acupuncture & Reiki sessions at GSHP are offered monthly on first Thursday evenings.

This community Reiki practice was created out of the desire to make this powerful modality accessible to all. Reiki is a healing method from Japan that developed in the late 19th century. It works through placing of one’s palms in precise positions on and above a client’s specific body parts between the head and feet. During a session, the client is fully clothed and lying down on a massage table.

As an alternative holistic therapy, Reiki promotes restoration by tapping into the electromagnetic field of the body. By adjusting the body’s vibrational frequencies, Reiki treatments activate the parasympathetic nervous system (rest and digest) and reduce the sympathetic nervous system (fight and flight). This healing modality helps the body release physical and emotional constraints, improving health and wellness.

Damian McCleod is a NY state licensed acupuncturist and has a Masters of Science Degree in Acupuncture from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine (PCOM). Damian’s introduction to the actual practice of acupuncture came after having undergone his second reconstructive knee surgery. At the suggestion of his fellow martial artist and graduate of PCOM, he started receiving acupuncture treatments at the college’s clinic. After having first hand proof of the power of acupuncture, he dedicated himself to the pursuit of Chinese Medicine. Email Damian with any questions at dmccleod@dmacupuncture.nyc.

Paying It Forward

We provide most of our community offerings and private sessions by sliding scale. This is based on the idea of ‘paying it forward’ which enables more people to access healing and wellness. This works when people pay as much as they can for our offerings to help others who may be less fortunate be able to gain access, too. We believe everyone is entitled to heal and thrive, and that practitioners deserve to earn a living wage. We are all in this together and choose to do our best to take care of one another. Thank you for being part of the MINKA community!
