This is a MINKA x Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health Partnership Offering—Created to Bring Efforts of Equity, Diversity, and Decolonizing Work to All.

This class is open to any womxn (woman, femme, trans, non-binary, non-gender-conforming and other, desires to gather within this context) who wishes to create a deeper connection and healing of our ancestral lineage.

Participant identifies as:

  • East Asian

  • Southeast Asian

  • South Asian

  • Middle Eastern

  • Pacific Islander

In this class, participants are invited to join Aki and guest facilitators to explore the ancestral realm for our individual and collective healing. Being ‘Asian’ is not a monolith experience; we gather in this complexity to be fully seen, heard and transform our wounds into our gifts.

Kapwa Tarot and Magic as Resistance:

Channeling Ancestral Spirits of Justice and Liberation to Radically Imagine a Way Forward

In this gathering space, JL will lead those who arrive in a re-membering of the call for spiritual guidance in the wake of liberation movements throughout the history of Colonization and our ancestors’ global resistance to it. We will strengthen our understanding of our duties as descendants of those who survived, and move to make communal declarations of our commitment to the creation of a new world order.

In this work our collective will call for visions and messages to guide us in our individual and collective responsibilities to this time of Decolonization that we are ushering forward. We will use the diasporic divination tool Kapwa Tarot rooted in Pilipin@/x symbology and cultural relation and be held in ancestral re-membrance channeling work by JL utilizing her familial and learned spiritual practices and rituals.

Join us in this important work for our collective liberation.

Aki Hirata Baker is an immigrant from the mother (is)land of Japan. She is the Founder of MINKA Brooklyn, and it is her desire to be the co-creator of a harmonious future with as many people as possible through this platform. She believes individual healing leads to social healing & change towards equity and peace; and practice of spirituality must always include the process of decolonization within each individual.

Everything offered in this class is an invitation and suggestion—and each participant can choose how they want to engage in this space as long as the safety of the online space is not compromised for the members of the learning community.
The class always includes:

  • Brief check-in, during which all participants are asked to be present on screen for the creation of a sacred community container.

  • Sharing circle to witness and be witnessed.

Depending on the facilitators and the need of the space, you may experience:

  • Activation of the energetic healing in the space.

  • Pulling of an oracle card as part of the intention setting for the community. You can choose to pull your own card to create a focus, or you can choose not to include any of this in your experience.

  • Storytelling or reframing.

  • Meditation and visualization exercise.

  • Embodiment/somatic exercise.

This session is best experienced in:

  • Comfortable and safe physical space when accessible.

  • Clothing that is not binding when possible.

  • Glass of water/herbal infusion or non-caffeinated tea etc.

What Is Sliding Scale?

We provide all of our community offerings and some private sessions by sliding scale. We believe everyone is entitled to heal their wounds so they can thrive; we also believe that the wellness and healing practitioners deserve to make a living wage. In order to make this possible, we ask you to pay as much as you can, so those who might not be able to pay as much can still receive their healing session - this is the idea behind 'paying it forward'. We are all in this together, and we choose to do our best to take care of one another.
Thank you in advance!
