ACUPUNCTURE & TRADITIONAL CHINESE MEDICINE
Acupuncture is an holistic system of healing used for the treatment of a wide variety of conditions and imbalances. Acupuncture effectively addresses a wide range of specific medical conditions (such as pain, physical and structural imbalances, anxiety, insomnia, gastrointestinal issues, menstrual disorders, sinus issues, and more), and is also a means of keeping the body healthy and helping to prevent future illness.
Following is a list of acupuncture treatments that might be used at MINKA brooklyn:
Classical Chinese Medicine (CCM) evolved from the classical teachings of the ancient Daoist medical texts of China, and the philosophical roots of Daoism, Confucianism, and Buddhism. CCM is foundation for all acupuncture and Chinese medicine.
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is the system of medicine that evolved after the Cultural Revolution in China and is the acupuncture style most common in the West.
Kiiko Matsumoto Style (KM): Kiiko Matsumoto is a living master, integrating her vast clinical experience of more than 35 years with Western osteopathy, pathophysiology, and training by some of the most renowned Japanese acupuncture masters. When using this system, a practitioner follows an abdominal palpation sequence for diagnosis and treatment. This method removes the mystery for patients offering direct and immediate feedback on the treatment’s efficacy.
Acupuncture Physical Medicine (APM) combines classical acupuncture with Western osteopathy. APM is arguably the best way to release trigger points (Janet Travell, MD) or constriction in the muscles and fascia.
Manual Therapy is used as a complement to acupuncture or alone for those who are sensitive to needle stimulation. Eastern manual therapy or therapeutic bodywork methods include amma and tui na, which move Qi (life force and energy) with the hands while supporting the body to make necessary structural adjustments for proper alignment. Cupping and guasha help release stagnation and support proper circulation with the use of suction from cups or a scraping tool. Craniosacral therapy uses soft touch, which is generally no greater than 5 grams – about the weight of a nickel, to release restrictions in the soft tissues that surround the central nervous system.
