Leah Morrison, LMT, is a certified Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapist and Birth Doula. She began studying Craniosacral Therapy in 2011 and went on to complete a more than two year Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy training with Franklyn Sills. Leah treats adults, children and infants. She has developed a nuanced understanding of the body through her many years of movement practice and study, including dancing and teaching with the Trisha Brown Dance Company and studying Alexander technique, Body-Mind Centering, and meditation.

Leah specializes in working with adults with chronic pain or chronic health conditions as well as those dealing with accumulated daily stress, anxiety, depression, and physical or emotional trauma. Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy (BCST) is perfect for those seeking to become more fully embodied and achieve clarity of mind and direction in life. Leah is devoted to helping her clients find pathways out of pain while also developing a healthy and resilient relationship to the challenges of life. Leah believes that the deepest potential for healing lies in discovering that we have options in how we respond to the conditions we meet in life.

Leah also specializes in treating infants to address breastfeeding latch issues, GI discomfort, pre and post tongue tie revision, physical tension, torticollis, or recovery from a difficult birth. BCST can also help children and teens dealing with physical and emotional struggles to feel more comfortable and at ease in the world. Her work with infants and children has a grounding and calming effect not only for the child, but for the entire family as well.

Leah offers in-person sessions in Brooklyn and Manhattan as well as online Craniosacral Therapy. If you are interested in a home visit for your infant, please contact Leah directly via craniosacraldoula.com or leah.bcst@gmail.com and be sure to share where you are located.

What is BCST? Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy (BCST) is a gentle yet powerful hands-on treatment for the whole body and mind, (not just the spine as the name may suggest). BCST works by calming the tumultuous waves of the nervous system so that the body can reorient to the more holistic underlying blueprint of being. When the body can access this deep internal resource, physical and emotional holding patterns that are no longer useful can let go, giving way to a more balanced body and mind.

What happens in a session? During a session, the client rests fully clothed on a treatment table while the practitioner uses a light touch and finely tuned tactile listening to sense subtle movements in the tissues and fluids of the body in order to facilitate release. When treating babies, the little one can be held by a parent or by the practitioner with a parent close by. Young children receiving BCST are not expected to keep still; movement and self-soothing play are perfectly fine!

Who can benefit? BCST is well known for its effectiveness in treating babies and children. Because of its gentle approach, it is even appropriate for newborns. It can help to address:

  • birth stress or trauma

  • breastfeeding challenges

  • colic

  • torticollis

  • mood or neurological disturbances

  • developmental delays

  • ADHD

  • sensory integration difficulties

  • autistic spectrum support

For adults, BCST is appropriate in treating both physical and emotional difficulties such as:

  • chronic pain

  • headaches - brain injury / concussion

  • vertigo / tinnitus - back pain / pelvic pain

  • postural imbalance - TMJ / ENT dysfunction

  • PTSD / CPTSD

  • anxiety and depression

For all ages, BCST is an excellent preventative therapy as it can resolve imbalances that may later lead to illness or injury.

TESTIMONIALs

I came to Cranial sacral therapy out of curiosity, and after the first session I was hooked. The healing nature of this work is very palpable. I always leave a session feeling better then when I came in and the experience of relaxation and restoration is unparalleled. Leah's work has touched and helped so many aspects of my life. It's brought comfort and ease to my body. It's helped with emotional issues and trauma. it's also brought nuance to my spiritual life. There is a spiritual side to this work for me, as it gives me such deep peace and attunement, not just to the body, but to the unconscious and to the mystery of life itself. - R.M.

Leah came to visit our four week old who was having latch issues and tightness in her neck. We had an intense birth experience so my lactation consultant had recommended this type of bodywork for us. I had no idea what to expect but our little one latched at the next feeding and hasn’t stopped since! We went from having the most stressful feedings, not knowing what would happen, to an easy latching baby. I cannot thank Leah enough! - L.C.

I first sought Craniosacral Therapy to help me with pain that I was having in my SI joint, I knew nothing about Craniosacral Therapy, the only thing I knew was that it was supposed to relax you. In my first session with Leah, I left feeling not only very relaxed, but totally pain free and with a wonderful feeling of being whole in my body. Leah is a great practitioner, patient, fully present and with a great sense of "hearing the body". In each session I get so many insights, sometimes it's very emotional, sometimes more physical; and sometimes it's more on an energy level, where I can feel warmth, vibrations or a feeling of energy traveling through specific parts of my body. Usually it's a combination of all of the above.- I.B.
