The Team

 

MINKA, means ‘Home of the people’. 

As a healers-led center for wellness and holistic living, we strive to create an inclusive environment where people can heal and businesses can thrive. 

We believe in the magical existence of human beings: we are here to hold space, so you can remember how to harness your inherent brilliance.

Here we gather, learn and better ourselves as a community through the extensive list of healing modalities and workshops we offer, crystals, essential oils, herbs and natural incenses. 

We welcome all who strive to shed old skin and glow anew from the inside out.  

MINKA is an inclusive space for healing and therapeutic professionals to host workshops, meetings, lectures, meditations, and classes.

We believe each of us has a role to play, a lesson to teach, and our very own special stone to place towards manifesting pure love in all its forms. 

 

 

Our mission is to promote the inherent magic already present within nature and to unleash the power of human potential. 


Community Ethos & Aspirations 

  • We believe in the the mysterious and unlimited healing possibilities and capacities of ourselves, and of our clients.  The natural state of our beings is health, abundance and wholeness; and we seek to return to this state by allowing our body/mind/soul to work in its magical ways.

  • We hold our clients’ well-being at the center of all and- collectively care for our clients for the highest possible healing.  Collaboration amongst our immediate practitioners, and other professionals - including Medical professionals, is integral to achieving our collective goal of healing.

  • We honor and respect the lineage of our healing practices. Upholding their teachings, and speaking the teachers’ names whenever is asked, or when appropriate is a starting point, and we continue to learn the historical context of the practices, as well as the techniques. We are aware that the Western culture we live in does not translate, or often omits the visceral context of indigenous traditions, which leads to cultural appropriation.  MINKA practitioners are committed to continue learning/unlearning these aspects of the practices and our cultural conditioning.

  • We acknowledge our ignorance of others’ experiences and perspectives; therefore, we seek to understand, rather than make judgements.

  • Individual healing and collective/social healing are intertwined; MINKA practitioners are committed to work with individuals, groups and organizations that are working on the frontline of social justice movements to provide solace, counsel, and recalibration, in order for these movements to transform our world.

  • MINKA Brooklyn is a space for healing and growth, both for our clients and practitioners. MINKA practitioners are dedicated to learning how to best hold space for folks from all walks of life.  We are aware of our implicit biases and how they play a role in our decision making; and we seek to understand the cultures of those who come from non-dominant groups, and how to best facilitate healings for those whose experiences differ from ours.  

  • MINKA means ‘Home of the People: a space for all people. We are committed to holding space for communities of color, LGBTQIA+, immigrants, differently-abled, communities living in economic poverty, and communities in need during times of crisis.  

  • We acknowledge that we are all on our healing path. Unaddressed pain, trauma and wounds in our psyche can surface in unexpected ways, and we work diligently and courageously to be present as this occurs.

  • In order for us to serve others, we commit to diving deeper into our own healing journey through gathering with one another, seeking counsel with teachers, healing practitioners and self-reflecting. We honor the healing process of individuals, clients and professionals, as much as the outcome.  

  • We care, nurture and respect our physical healing home, MINKA brooklyn, and the earth it exists in. We use Earth friendly products whenever possible, and ask all who gather to respect our policies.

  • We acknowledge that the land we live in is the ancestral lands of the Lenape Nation and the Canarsee people who have been and continue to be forcefully and systemically dispossessed of their land, and as a result, their culture. As we conduct healing, we are aware of the deep impact of this history both within individuals and society. We work to learn and unlearn our colonial conditioning to fully embrace our authentic power as Ourselves. We begin by acknowledging our individual privilege, and collectively use it to change the way society functions through healing practices and education.

  • We believe our journey is the most important teacher.

 

 

Community Agreement:
For Use externally and internally

  1. This is a BRAVE space, not a SAFE space

  2. Honor this Land and its History- NYC occupies Lenape land on Turtle Island.  For those of us who are settlers of this Indigenous land, we must constantly give thanks and acknowledge the stolen lives and the ongoing struggles of our Indigenous family in the face of American imperialism - we ground our session from this.

  3. Speak from the ‘I’ - speak from own experience

  4. Be the risk taker/truth sharer - speak your truth, be open.  We are here to listen and learn from all of us. Make mistakes - it’s only human, and there is no shame in falling on your beautiful face. Discomfort is your new friend - expect to be challenged, yet expect no one to judge you. We are here to explore the discomfort - so we can learn the lesson for integration.

  5. No judgement - It takes all of us to create a safe space of growth and healing.  Curb your judgement - and inquire where this judgement is coming from.

  6. Be curious - about others’ points of view, and about your reaction to them. Be willing to try on new and unfamiliar ideas and ways of doing things.

  7. Respect people’s identity - don’t assume, ASK

  8. Step up/Step Down - Be aware of the space you are taking up, make sure everyone feels heard, not just the outspoken few.

  9. Practice mindful listening - Listen for the sake of listening, allow the new idea to surprise you and open you up to new possibilities of reality.

  10. Confidentiality - Take home the experience and learning, not the identity of folks who are courageous to be vulnerable.

  11. Stay engaged with your whole body - Mental & emotional reaction has physical consequence, listen to your mind, heart and body.

  12. Read the room - We all live our own realities, and they are all different, be flexible and open to other ideas while making sure you are not imposing your ideals as the ‘truth’.  Look around, and see how the room ‘feels’.

  13. Expect ‘non-closure’ - We want you to hang out in uncertainty.  It is the place of possibility, learning and unlearning.  True learning and transformation takes time - do not rush to have an easily packaged conclusion.  Life is messy and it’s beautiful.
